Prince’s purple mansion
We all know Prince had a penchant for purple.
And in true rock’n’roll style, the late music megastar, whose global hits included Purple Rain, painted his Los Angeles rental home in purple stripes in 2005.
The property, on a tennis estate, is for sale now, priced £24.1 million.
The LA property was owned by NBA star Carlos Boozer, who rented it to Prince during the basketball season. Prince offered him £76,400 a month to live there.
What Boozer did not bargain for was the singer completely renovating the place in black and purple. The weights room got a dance floor and a DJ booth, while the bedrooms were converted into a hair salon and massage parlour. Boozer threatened to sue but Prince agreed to swap everything back and the two later became close friends.
The estate, just above Sunset Strip, comprises the main 15,101sq ft house and an English Tudor-style home of 3,300sq ft.
The palatial main residence has 10 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, a ballroom, wine cellar, large terraces with views of the city and ocean.
Room to play
Plus, there is a rooftop tennis court and a pool with a grotto, reminiscent of the Playboy Mansion.
Built in 1953 and also lived in by Elizabeth Taylor, the home was made for entertaining and Prince even performed private gigs there for his friends.
It is listed with the West Hollywood-based Oppenheim Group, as seen on Netflix series Selling Sunset, starring Jason Oppenheim and his agents.
Alternatively, the main house is offered to rent at £64,300 per month. That’s significantly less than Prince paid.
